Cecily Flemming

Bio / Artist Statement

Cecily Flemming is an environmental microbiologist and self-taught artist, residing in Burlington for over 25 years and now living in the Hamilton Beach community. Born in Niagara she grew up on the Escarpment, enjoying our rich habitat – lake, stream, field and forest. She finds joy in all living things – large or small, animal or vegetable – observing their intricate nature, which are often integral to her images as a printmaker.

She enjoyed art classes in high school and completed a first-year fine art course at Guelph which was a euphoric experience – simply put, making a mark on a ground! Her printmaking work explores various styles – watercolour and ink monoprints, linoleum block, and other relief printing. She also engages in watercolour and acrylic painting. Her work has been accepted into numerous curated and juried exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Burlington, as a guild member of the Burlington Fine Arts

Association, and is in numerous private collections.
