Exhibition No. 3
Laura Beaton
Bio / Artist Statement
Toronto born, my roots are in Scottish bagpipes and English tea. Introduced to a variety of cultures at a young age, my creative curiosity was inspired by a Chinese Brush painting on an antique tea wagon found in the heart of Chinatown. In constant wonder of the intersectionality of cultures, I maintain the role of “quiet activist” where paint meets canvas.
I paint in a fusion of aspects and styles using mixed media to create works that are representative of the commonalities among people. Through my use of mixed media acrylics on canvas I can convey abstract thoughts and ideas that impact life as we know it. Often, they reflect situations with complex implications and are not easily or quickly resolved.
‘The Woods #1 & #2’ represent the earth’s elements as they relate to the sustainability of the woods. Textures of a variety of wood are featured as well as the spirituality and zen feeling of the woods.
