Frances Maas

Bio / Artist Statement

Frances Maas’s passion for photography blossomed later in life, sparked by casual strolls along Hamilton’s Beach Trail with a point-and-shoot camera. As she captured the beauty of flora and fauna, she discovered the joy of slowing down and noticing the intricacies of detail, perspective, composition, and light.

Through self-directed study and a dedication to honing her craft, Frances refined her photographic skills. Her subject matter evolved to encompass the great outdoors, with a particular fondness for wildlife, especially birds, and the vibrant colours of flowers. Frances’s lens also captures the often-overlooked beauty of industrial landscapes and the subtle vibrancy of winter forests.

Each photograph in Frances’s collection tells a unique story, born from her encounters with the natural and man-made world. While her camera accompanies her on travels, she finds endless inspiration in the familiar landscapes of Hamilton and Halton.
