Heather Vollans is a mosaicist. She has been working with mosaic for around 20 years exploring a number of different materials.

Materials matter: they are why she mosaics. The find, the “playing” with materials before design and execution, and conversations that develop around work are all important aspects of her process. Materials have a voice: sometimes loud, sometimes soft, but always strong. The exploration of materials and how they work alone or, occasionally together with other materials, to create either harmony or disparity is what fires her.

Materials dictate design; never the other way around.
